Burts Potato Chips Limited was founded in 1995 and specialise in the manufacture of premium crisps and lentil chips from their facility in Plymouth, Cornwall.
Burts Crisps were already familiar with the EFAFLEX brand and a previous customer from several years ago. When their site needed renovating, our regional Business Development Manager visited to understand the specific requirements for their busy goods in and deliveries areas.
They had been using an older style roller shutter door which was slow to operate, leaving the facility exposed to the elements.
After discussions, a SST (spiral high-speed door) was recommended as being ideally suited for the application. This product combines high opening and closing speeds, (opening up to 2.5m metres per second and closing at up to 1 metre per second) with the highest wind load capcaity; ideal for a exterior installation and capable of up to 250,000 operating cycles per year.
We recommended the inclusion of strategically positioned transparent laths that will not only improve user safety and line of vision, but also enable natural daylight into the facility.
The client had a specific rquirement. This busy facility demanded a speedy removal of the older door and installation of the EFAFLEX unit. Operationally, the client couldn’t be without a secure door for more than one day, and so the EFAFLEX installation team worked to facilitate a smooth and effective transition so that the downtime was kept to an absolute minimum.
The SST will ensure that the client’s energy costs are reduced due to its operational speed, and also secure the facility. Since installation, fork lift truck operations are far more efficient using a remote control operation, the building warmer and environment more comfortable, while the staff in the area have benefitted from increased natural light and a good line of vision when working in the area.
We will be back to visit the client peirodically and inspect the doors as they have a maintenance agreement in place.
